The folder shouldn't contain a cursor whatsoever- just the desktop icon. Did I put the wrong item in there?

I get the very distinct impression that you are a troll, but I will humor you and respond point-by-point.

1) To paraphrase your first sentence as simply "What is this?" I would tell you that this is the character Sombra, an equine being of shadowstuff and tyrannical lord from the most recent MLP episode.
2) Blurry. This is, perhaps, the only bit of legitimate criticism that could be taken from your statement, but I would also be one to respond to this assertion by telling you that the character is largely composed of umbral smoke, and smoke is not really known for its sharpness or clarity.
3) Retarded. This character's intelligence nor presence of mental disability have been made mention of. This can neither affirm nor deny.
4) Pony. Yes. In fact, most of the characters from "My Little Pony" are ponies.
5) Faggotry. Homosexuality is a topic not even touched on in the series. Any inference to homosexuality is purely from some of the fans. I have not been one of those fans; I have not portrayed romantic relationships between any pairs of characters, homosexual or otherwise.
6) Black. Yes; Sombra's palette is largely comprised of black and dark greys, the likes of which I have used.
7) Clusterfuck. I will have to ask that you elaborate upon this point. The term "clusterfuck" was coined to detail a situation in which several things have gone awry synchronously or coincidingly. You have presented two, (one which I have responded to, and the other in which I will be responding to next,) and neither seem to be holding up to well, unless you can further support them.
8) "...looks like literal shit." You are comparing one dark, low-contrast, amorphous mass to another: fecal matter to smoke.
9) "Learn an actual art skill." I have been educated in the use of several media: ink, paint, charcoal, pastel (oil and chalk,) sewing, ceramics, and wood. If you are going to attempt to attack me, personally, it would probably do you well to educate yourself in what it is that I have experience in and in where my faults lie. In that, I will admit, I would consider myself a novice at pixel art, and these little cursor and icon projects are a means for me to educate myself in the craft- what works and what doesn't work. In working with single pixels, there are no sharp curves or mixed gradients, there are only colors adjacent to other colors. Each small-scale pixel work is quite the ordeal in working with the finesse of color theory, which I can say is all the more complicated the more limited the space is.

Sometimes, they say more is less. That is a LOT of detailing for a very small sprite.

I can see what you mean; there is a lot happening in such a limited space. I'll keep that in mind next time I do something so smoky.
Thank you for the input.

Also be aware of single pixel noise. Too much of them and you can probably end up with a very busy-looking mess. Reserve them for really specific, important details.

I will be sure to, thank you.
I can see where this has occurred; it looks as though I may have put too much of an emphasis on each individual plume of smoke rather than emphasizing the fluidity of the form as a whole.
The light points of his greaves might be a little too sharp, too. Your thoughts? The shade of grey used isn't that bright, but it seems, to me, that it may contrast a bit too much to the darkness of the body.

From experience, I seem to get better results when I put less effort into fine details on smaller works. With larger works, you can get away with more detailing more easily without worrying about readability or making it a mess that's difficult to make out by just having more room to work with.

Have you never seen a quality pixel art tut like this one? [link]

IMO, we are probably better off without the super strong highlights on the greaves as I don't see much of a point in attracting extra attention there. If I wasn't clear about this, single pixel noise does attract a lot of attention for how little info they convey.

It also seems that the effectiveness of your color palette partially depends on the scale you work at. Often enough, I find myself stumped at how downscaling some of my works somehow washes out my colors. Similarly, when I try upscaling my current avatar, putting aside the illogical colors I manage to use as buffer colors, the contrast starts feeling unsuitably sharp. Times like these, I start disregarding show-accurate colors and just go with colors that are close enough just for the purpose of better readability.

By the way, 'jesus the dick' is a hilarious choice for a name. Totally not a person who wants to rustle people's jimmies, don't you think? =p

This is actually pretty big compared to what I have been doing before. I started on 32x32 pixel cursors. I'll be sure not to get too ahead of myself in doing the icons.

I tend to keep away from tutorials, not that I am opposed to them. It is just that I do not seek them out. I'll take a look at the one you've sent me, though.

I've not done anything, yet, beyond the 48x48 sized frame, but when I do begin pushing beyond that I will keep this advise (how scaling affects color choice) in mind.

Thank you for such a thorough response. I do appreciate the input that you have offered.
On another note, I have also gone and looked at your works. I hadn't realized it at first, but you are someone whose gallery I have perused a couple of times before, and your use of color is brilliant. I imagine that you are one who is quite familiar with the fine points of color theory, and are well-practiced in manipulating the ways in which your colors interact. Thank you for giving me some time out of your day. I do appreciate.

And yes, "Jesus the Dick" was quite the guy. It amuses me how simple people who enjoy being irksome with the intent of causing discord can be. But then again, I suppose that individuals as this are looking to rouse those that are just as simple as they.

He has a great design to him. The series' concept artists have been brilliant. I think why he looks so much meaner is that his character is far more sinister. Chrysalis was evil by circumstance, Discord envisioned a different reality, and Luna sought retribution. Sombre, however, just wanted power, to rule tyrannically.
